6 Things To Do, See & Eat In Edinburgh

ScotRail have recently launched a new campaign called the #GreatCitySwap and they got in touch with me to ask if I wanted to enjoy a day out in Edinburgh which is about a 50-minute train journey from my home city of Glasgow. I have always loved Edinburgh and I have never really had the chance to explore the city because I have just never really got round to or couldn’t find the time to do all of the traditional “touristy” things so I jumped on the opportunity! Using their new swapportunities feature on the ScotRail website, I was set up with a hand-picked itinerary for the day. It was great because if you buy a return train ticket it only costs £12.70 and you don’t have to endure the stress of finding a parking space and then paying something ridiculous to park in the city for the day. I just hopped off the train and everywhere on my list was central, it was really refreshing just to have a stroll around! You should definitely take a look at the ScotRail swapportunities page it has lot’s of inspo if you’re planning a visit to Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Anyway here’s a little peek at what I got up to…

Brewhemia

Brewhemia Edinburgh

First stop was Brewhemia for some brunch and prosecco. It was literally right outside the Edinburgh Waverley station exit, so super easy to get to and it was so beautiful inside too. I ordered pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, whilst my fiance had the smashed avocado with poached eggs on toast. Can you tell who’s the healthier one out of the both of us? I absolutely loved this place tho, it was right up my street. It’s somewhere that I’m definitely going to visit again when I am in Edinburgh, they even had a buzzer that you could ring for more prosecco … uhhh what?!

7/10

St Giles Cathedral

St Gies Cathedral Edinburgh

Our next stop was St Giles Cathedral which is Edinburgh’s historic city church.  I have to admit I have walked past this church so many times when I’ve been shopping in Edinburgh. Usually, when I go abroad I am always intrigued by the history and learning about the culture, but it’s something that I always forget Scotland actually has a lot of too! So I was happy that I had the opportunity to actually go inside this time and explore. It really sparked some nostalgia for me, as when we first walked in, there was a local choir singing hymns and some of the hymns took me straight back to my school days!

Burr + Co

We then had a little coffee pick me up at the lovely Burr + Co which is a coffee shop franchised the Principal Hotel Company. If you haven’t read my review on the Principal hotel yet and are planning a visit to Edinburgh you need to check it out! ?

El Cartel

El Cartel Edinburgh

We got a little lost on our way to El Cartel but we did find our way eventually and I’m glad that we did. El Cartel is famous for its authentic Mexican street food and frozen margaritas. It is a teeny, tiny restaurant on Thistle Street. It’s quite difficult to get a seat so I’d pop in beforehand and pre-book a table as I don’t think they take bookings over the phone. But we ordered a TON of food, as well as some very traditional Mexican cocktails which the manager recommended to us and they were divine!

6/10

West Princes Street Gardens

Before our next destination, we had a stroll through West Princes Street Gardens and I, of course, took advantage of the beautiful scenery for a little OOTD photo opp. Do you recognise my t-shirt? Ha, yes I was that girl that went to a Mexican restaurant and came out with their branded t-shirt on #noshame. I need to mention the blazer too, I got it from LOTD and I literally love it. It’s such a nice colour for autumn and it fits really well too. What do you think?

Paradise Palms

Paradise Palms Edinburgh

Last stop was Paradise Palms, the amount of food we had eaten that day was absurd so we just got some cocktails from here to try. The Pina Colada’s were on another level, but I’ll need to go back at some point and try some of the food from their menu!

6/10 (for the cocktails)

Overall Edinburgh is a completely different city from Glasgow which has lot’s to offer. I’d love to get to know Edinburgh a bit better, so I think I will be using the rail link more frequently as it is so much less stressful than driving. I also have a really exciting project coming up with an Edinburgh brand called Snow Paw, I can’t say much more about it until everything has been confirmed, but I can not wait to share the news with you all!
