How To Look More Stylish At The Office #GIRLBOSS

I love creating workwear looks. There’s nothing better than seeing a woman with a ton of confidence in a sleek workwear outfit. Have you guys watched Suits or Scandal? Those TV shows are pretty much where I get ALL of my inspiration for workwear. I’m pretty much obsessed with Jessica Pearson and Olivia Pope ?.

OK, so let’s talk about real life. The amount of time the average person spends at work adds up to a crazy amount of over 2,000 hours a year just at the office – that’s not even counting the many hours most people work from home. Now, that is a lot of time wearing outfits you’ve bought just for working in. Although there may be more strict boundaries on what is ‘acceptable’ to wear to work, workwear doesn’t have to be boring and it can reflect your own personal style and I want to tell you how.

It’s all about being creative and thinking outside the box. C’mon what better way to resist the horrible British weather than to get in the power dressing spirit and buy that two-piece suit of your dreams that is going to make you feel like you can take on the world ???.

Here are a few of my top tips to help you look stylish at work.

A Smart Coat

A smart coat in A/W is the key to any workwear outfit. A long tailored coat works brilliantly with any work look. A well-fitted jacket is also a great investment that will last you in the long-term, instead of wasting your hard-earned money on a throwaway fast fashion item. The Topshop coat I’m wearing in these photos, I usually wear with my comfy (fleeced-lined) heeled boots but it works just as well with my Nike trainers and a pair of tailored trousers. I played it safe with the camel colour which will match almost anything, but I love a brightly coloured coat as much as the next gal!

Here are a few of my favourite work-appropriate coats:

Workwear With A Twist

Add personality to your work clothes by wearing one item of clothing that adds a bit of funk to your outfit. The trick is to not overdo it. In this outfit, I am wearing the standard blue and white striped shirt but then the detailing in my jeans (from LOTD btw) have fringing and pearl embellishment which brings out my quirky personality and my shows my inner fashionista!

How To Accessorise

Accessories are such an affordable addition to any outfit. You can pick up some reasonably priced accessories from Topshop or Urban Outfitters and it can seriously change your whole work look vibe. I bought this little grey bag from Primark for £2 which is an absolute bargain and I feel that it just puts the full look together!

Need some accessories inspo:

Overall, wearing what you feel comfortable and confident in is the most important thing when it comes to choosing an outfit for work. I have been in jobs where skirts or denim shorts were a part of our ‘uniform’ which I actually refused to wear because I didn’t feel comfortable. I also don’t agree with jobs that force you to wear heels daily. As if worn long-term, it can actually give you serious health problems in the future! So don’t be afraid to challenge the ‘norms’ and work your way around work guidelines and boundaries. Just do you!
